Tusket Farmer's Market
We arrived in Tusket mid-afternoon and set up next to Nova Scotia’s oldest Courthouse and Gaol. The wind was just a howling through the area where they had the Tusket Farmer’s Market, and we soon found that to our disadvantage! After having many of our flyers and pamphlets blown around (and even some of our smoked salmon samples) we decided to bring the tent down with the help of some locals including Nolan D’Eon of Eel Lake Oyster Farms. We did this as hurriedly as we could (all the while giving our spiel about the Aquaculture to anyone who was stopping by). It was downright hectic. Then we got set up inside the larger tank, and things were a bit more stable. Got a chance to talk to several interested people, one who asked about opportunities to start up their own farm. As well, a woman from Shelburne was who had attended the recent town hall meeting concerning the new salmon leases going in there said she was excited for the projected new jobs Aquaculture would bring to the area. Finally, a local Lobster fisherman regaled me with a tale of the largest pot of lobsters he had pulled up had come from under a salmon farm cage! With people coming up with these stories, there isn’t much left for us Outreach types to say! Daycamps tomorrow, and setting up for Yarmouth Seafest on Saturday!
